Physiotherapy What It Is and Who It Helps
At Montebello Physiotherapy, every treatment session is genuinely one-on-one with your registered physiotherapist. From your initial assessment through to discharge, your physiotherapist is with you the entire time — never rushed, never delegated to an assistant, never double-booked.
Who Physiotherapy Helps
Physiotherapy is a regulated health profession that helps people reduce pain, move more easily, and return to the activities that matter most. Whether you are recovering from an injury, managing ongoing pain, or noticing new limitations in your everyday movement, registered physiotherapy offers a structured, evidence-informed way to understand what is happening in your body and what can help. At Montebello Physiotherapy, our therapist can support people of many ages and activity levels, from athletes and active adults to those who simply want to walk, work, and enjoy family life with greater comfort and confidence.
What Does Physiotherapy Treatment Include?
Physiotherapy at Montebello is not a one-size-fits-all approach. Your treatment plan is designed specifically for your injury, your goals, and your lifestyle. Every appointment typically includes a combination of the following:
01
Comprehensive Assessment
Your first appointment begins with a thorough assessment. Your physiotherapist will take a detailed history of your symptoms, review relevant medical history, and perform a physical evaluation — including movement analysis, strength testing, joint assessment, and neurological screening where appropriate. This is how we understand not just where it hurts, but why.
02
Hands-On Treatment
Manual therapy is a core component of physiotherapy treatment at Montebello. This includes joint mobilization and manipulation, soft tissue massage, myofascial release, and neural mobilization — techniques that reduce pain, restore movement, and accelerate healing. Because we never double-book, your physiotherapist has the full appointment to apply manual therapy properly — not just the last five minutes.
03
Targeted Exercise
Exercise is medicine — but only when it’s the right exercise, at the right intensity, at the right time. Your physiotherapist will design a progressive exercise program specific to your injury and goals. This is not a generic handout — it’s a program built for you, explained to you, and adjusted as you improve.
04
Education & Self-Care
One of the most valuable parts of physiotherapy is understanding your own body. We explain your diagnosis in plain language, answer your questions thoroughly, and give you the knowledge to manage your condition between appointments and prevent re-injury. An informed patient is an empowered patient

Getting Started
Do You Need a Referral for Physiotherapy in Ontario?
No. You do not need a doctor’s referral to see a physiotherapist in Ontario. You can call us or book online directly at any time — no referral required.
However, some extended health insurance plans require a physician’s referral for reimbursement. We recommend checking your specific plan details, and our front desk team is happy to help you confirm this when you book. In most cases, you can see us right away and sort out insurance paperwork quickly.
Is Physiotherapy Covered by Insurance?
Physiotherapy is covered under most extended health insurance plans. At Montebello Physiotherapy, we offer direct billing to most major insurance providers — meaning we bill your insurance directly and you pay only any remaining balance at the time of your appointment.
We direct bill to providers including: Sunlife, Manulife, Great-West Life, Canada Life, Desjardins, Blue Cross, Greenshield, and many others. Not sure if your plan is covered? Call us at 289-438-9920 and we’ll check for you.
Note: Physiotherapy is not covered by OHIP for the general public. However, it is covered under most employer and private health benefit plans
What Should I Expect at My First Physiotherapy Appointment?
Step 1 — ARRIVAL: Please arrive 5-10 minutes early to complete your intake paperwork. Wear comfortable clothing that allows access to the area being treated.
Step 2 — ASSESSMENT (45 min): Your physiotherapist will take a full history, discuss your goals, and perform a hands-on physical assessment.
Step 3 — DIAGNOSIS & EDUCATION: You’ll receive a clear explanation of what’s causing your pain or limiting your movement, and what we’re going to do about it.
Step 4 — TREATMENT: In most cases, treatment begins in the first session.
Step 5 — HOME PROGRAM: You’ll leave with a specific home exercise program and clear instructions for your recovery.
